Lyme Regis

Lyme Local Quaker Meeting doesn't have its own premises but rents the Villge Hall from the People of Uplyme. This is approx a mile out of the resort of Lyme Regis which is opportune as parking is as rare as hen's teeth in Lyme during the summer months. The VH has a large parking facility at each end of the building which is right across the road from the petrol station shown on the map.

The hall has a capacity for 200 so is very useful for holding larger Meetings and accommodating some of the many Quaker campers who often use a campsite at nearby Westover Farm, Wootten Fitzpaine.  However Lyme LQM is quite small in number, but growing steadily.
We hold our Meetings at 10 a.m. on Sundays which are always followed by a time of fellowship or learning/ E&O. On 5th Sundays we hold a Shared Lunch after MfW which lasts until 2p.m. as we need to vacate the hall at that time. When Area Meeting comes visiting we extend our time until 5p.m.
On the 2nd Monday of each month we hold a Meeting for Learning at the Library in Charmouth from 7.30 until 9p.m. Enquirers are very welcome to join us especially if they have questions on Quakerism to be asked. Otherwise we use the time to read Quaker Faith and Practice together and discuss E&O etc..

Once a year we organise and attend a pilgrimage to the old burial Ground at Lea Hill Farm resort, Membury, north of Axminster. Afterwards we have an al fresco tea in the garden of friends living near the river in Axminster. Occasionally we are 'disturbed' by passing kingfishers! If the weather is inclement we have tea under cover! Membury was visited by George Fox on his way back to London from Cornwall according to his memoirs. Lately we have realised two more disused Burial Grounds nearby. Perhaps this is a chance to arrange more such events!!!

To find us...by road transit the B3165 from Lyme Regis or from Raymonds Hill and when you see the Petrol Station look across the road. There is a nice riverside walk out from Lyme past the town mill. Buses regularly pass the hall. The stop is nearer the public house adjacent. Services to and from Bridport, Axminster, Dorchester,Exeter, Weymouth and Poole pass this way! The nearest railway station is at Axminster where all the bus services go too! The bus company is currently 'First'. The railway runs to London Waterloo via Salisbury and all stations inbetween and onwards to Penzance via Exeter.
